Economic Dev. Strategy

Developed an economic development strategy for Douglas Shire, the only place on the planet where two World Heritage listed sites meet. Douglas Shire is highly reliant on tourism and wanted to develop a strategy to increase the resilience, prosperity and sustainability of the Shire. We worked with the Client and Key Stakeholders to identify five key priority focus areas that would address the key challenges facing the Shire and build on its strengths and to capitalise on emerging opportunities.

Corporate Sustainability Plan

Corporate Sustainability Plan

Created a sustainability plan for the Australian Catholic University (ACU) that made sound business sense. This will allow ACU to respond to a series of critical global sustainability challenges identified by Pope Francis in Laudato Si, his second encyclical, across its 7 campuses and 30,000 students to: • reduce ACU’s environmental impact and increase social equity • increase student and staff understanding of sustainability; • inspire and provide leadership to ACU’s key partners.

Produced a sustainability framework that identified priority initiatives and a framework to guide development on a 95 hectare CBD site in Townsville that will simultaneously: - Create more local business opportunities and jobs; - Regenerate the local environment and increase bio-diversity; and - Create a stronger and healthier community.

Developed a new business model and realistic staging plan to address the key opportunities and challenges facing the organisation and sets the program and priorities for CHS in the years leading up to the opening of the new Museum. Possible People designed, led and facilitated a robust and transparent process that included a comprehensive review of the organisation and wide stakeholder engagement that obtained buy-in by the Management Team.

Girringun Native Plant Nursery

Commissioned to diagnose key issues with the planning and delivery of an existing project. Developed a ‘Turnaround & Implementation Strategy’ and brought the project back on-track. Prepared a Functional Brief, preliminary Business Model, Design Consultant Tender Documentation and procured a Lead Design Consultant. Currently overseeing the procurement of the building contractor.

CBD Waterfront Revitilisation

CBD Waterfront Revitilisation

Prepared a comprehensive technical design brief that was used in a public tender process to procure an experienced multi-disc. team to design the initial $10 Million waterfront promenade project, which will be a catalyst for the revitilisation of the Townsville CBD.

Destination Tourism Plan

Destination Tourism Plan

Lead consultant responsible for preparing a DTP to provide the definitive direction for tourism and events in Tropical North Queensland towards 2020 with a target of increasing overnight tourism expenditure by $2 Billion/yr., a 77% increase from 2013. The DTP identified the vision, priorities, strategies and actions required to create a sustainable and competitive tourism destination including the support required to manage TNQ's two iconic natural world heritage listed sites.

Indigenous Development

Indigenous Development

Produced an economic development strategy to support and leverage opportunities from the Horn Island Affordable Housing Project. The strategy identified opportunities to create businesses and jobs for local people on a remote tropical island that was deemed to have limited opportunities. In addition, developed an innovative Procurement Strategy for the delivery of the affordable housing project to maximise local enterprise development and jobs.

Mon Repos Turtle Centre

Mon Repos Turtle Centre

Developed a strategic business model to identify multiple new additional income streams for an existing eco-tourism operation in Bundaberg, Queensland that would support, improve and enhance the conservation efforts of a threatened turtle species whilst also creating additional investment, jobs and economic opportunities.

Walkabout Creek Visitor Centre

Walkabout Creek Visitor Centre

Developed a strategic business model that identified new and diverse income streams to support the creation and operation of an outdoor nature-based recreation and adventure centre that is also a gateway to the adjacent national park for sustainable ecotourism and outdoor recreation activities. This would create additional investment, jobs and economic opportunities whilst creating a community hub and maintaining the environmental characteristics of the centre and park.

Advance Cairns - 2011-2013

Advance Cairns - 2011-2013

CEO of the peak regional advocacy and economic development organisation for Tropical North Queensland (TNQ). Key achievements in the role included: • Implementing a change in business model that secured a significant new income stream; • Oversight of the completion of TNQ's first regional economic plan and investment strategy; • Implementation of a series of advocacy initiatives that resulted in attracting new flights from China and the 2014 G20 Finance Minister's meeting.

Led the Program and Project Management (P&PM) business and the Cairns Office from 2003. Primarily responsible for leading and building the business as well as planning and leading the implementation of complex built environment programs and projects throughout Australia, PNG, South East Asia and the United Kingdom across various sectors. Prior to being based in Cairns, spent three years each in London and Manchester, UK, in various project management, engineering design and construction roles.
